6 Thanksgiving Centerpieces for Fall Parties

by Dale Dauterive

1. Decorations with Dessert

Try putting a sweet spin on a traditional Thanksgiving cornucopia by serving up some bite-sized desserts on a series of stacked serving trays. It can be anything from mini pumpkin pies, pecan tarts, cheesecake bites, and anything else you can think of for your decadent decoration. Your guests won't have to leave the table and head back to the kitchen to grab their after-dinner treat--dessert is always within an arm's reach.

2. Teapots

You don’t need to tip it over and pour it out, but you can craft an elegant centerpiece and incorporate family heirlooms from an antique teapot surrounded by other vintage discoveries. Porcelain leaves and turkeys are an artsy pairing for this fall decoration. Place them on top of a wooden tray, and fill the teapot with seeded eucalyptus, fern fronds, and chrysanthemum berries for visual and a pleasant aroma.

3. Opt for Asymmetry

While a clean, well-balanced table might be an aesthetic symmetrical look for Thanksgiving, asymmetry lends a more free-flowing, dynamic look for your centerpiece. You can create a layered effect with your decorations that incorporates the softness of candlelight with the rustic elements and jagged textures of wood. An assortment of harvest colors with silk sunflowers and dried seed pods bring the piece together.

4. Centerpiece You Can Eat

What could be better than edible table decorations? That sure cuts down on your holiday meal prep! You can make a delicious and completely edible cornucopia out of bread to anchor your Thanksgiving table. All you need is refrigerated bread dough, aluminum foil, and one egg. Once your dough is fully baked, fill with sweet and savory snacks for a centerpiece that will keep your guests satisfied while they wait for that turkey to cook. And who doesn't love the smell of freshly baked bread? It’s a captivating aroma that engulfs the house in a warm, comforting scent that epitomizes the fall season.

5. Faux Can Be Fun

If you prefer to reuse your decorations each year and don’t feel like eating them, you can create a centerpiece that’ll last the entire holiday season. Swap out your fresh elements for faux, and create a rustic and refined centerpiece with mini pumpkins surrounded by greenery, cotton stems, dried grasses, and pinecones. You’ll have a festive table setting that looks and feels just like the pumpkin patch but won’t leave the mess of natural decorations.

6. Can't Forget the Kid's Table

If you’re hosting a large family gathering for your Thanksgiving celebration, odds are you’ve placed the kiddos at a separate table to save space for the adults and save yourself from having mashed potatoes flung at you from across the table. For some, the kid’s table is as much of a tradition as turkey and gravy or pumpkin pie and whipped cream. You can’t forget the centerpiece for the kid’s table--fill vases with savory snacks and sweet treats to keep your little pilgrims happy and their bellies full.
